Booking SEVEN plane tickets to a foreign country: SCARY
Renting a house in a foreign country via the internet: RISKY
Fulfilling a promise to take your children back to their birth country: PRICELESS
What is there to do on a morning when the house is filled with sick children? Finalize family vacation plans of course!
My stomach was churning as I completed booking our flights to Guatemala and securing the rental home. This promises to be a grand adventure.
The logistics alone sound daunting. Traveling internationally with 5 children. Spending a week in a country that none of us are fluent in the spoken language. Staying in a private residence where we will be on our own. Spending time with foster families and birth families who the children will be "meeting" for the first time. None of the children have memories of their first families.
An adventure awaits us for sure!
Our teenagers are already completely comfortable being in Guatemala. I want the younger children to love being in their birth country as well.
Simply stated, I cannot wait.
Check out the house where we will be staying. It is a typical Antigua-style home which contains an inner courtyard. The children can play outside but be within the property. This is perfect for my outdoor-loving kids!
Gus and Marco are totally jazzed about being able to see volcanoes from the house. Katie and Zack are pumped about being able to walk to the market with me and shop for various items which should probably remain secret (hint: DVDs not yet released in the US).
We'll all be given the opportunity to sharpen our Spanish skills. ;)
Please keep our trip in your prayers. Our hope is that God will use this week for his glory and honor and that our children will be blessed in their time in their birth country and with those that gave them life and cared for them until we could bring them home.
June 12th through the 19th: GAME ON!
